Senior Analyst Group Reference Data

Position Purpose:

To help the CBA gain an accurate picture of business and process performance using standardised measures and hierarchies. 

Context:

Enterprise Services delivers the Group’s information technology and banking operations functions to ensure the highest levels of customer service through world-class process excellence and technology innovation.

We are the Group’s engine room committed to delivering available, reliable, consistent technology solutions for our internal and external customers. Our technology teams provide essential tools for our people such as myemailanywhere and telecommunications, right through to innovative product platforms for our customers including NetBank and CommSec. Our operations teams leverage technology to utilise process excellence principles to drive timely, error free processing which is an essential component of the value proposition we offer our customers.

Department:

Business Intelligence is a critical enabler of the Group’s strategic priorities and a driver of competitive advantage. The BI Services (BIS) team is committed to maximising the Group’s Business Intelligence capability by partnering with our customers from across the Group.

In support of this goal BIS provide strategy, solution design, project delivery, maintenance, support and governance services centred around the Group’s Business Intelligence assets. These assets include:

  • The Group Data Warehouse (GDW)
  • GDW data loads and other ETL applications
  • Group Reference Data (GRD)
  • Reporting and analytics applications and tools (including SAS and Oracle Hyperion)

Team:

Group Reference Data (GRD) Governance, is responsible for managing and co-ordinating changes to:

~ GRD (for instance, Product Hierarchies); and

~ Group Measures (for instance, Home Loan New Funding)

Additionally, the team is responsible for helping users find out what data is carried in the Group Data Warehouse (GDW) and ensuring that new data loaded to the GDW follows standards to ensure consistency with existing data models

Work of the role:

You will be expected to perform the following tasks in a manner consistent with CBA’s Values of Honesty, Integrity and Trust and CBA’s Behaviours of Performance-Driven, Accountable, Customer-Focussed and Teamwork.

Internal and External Client / Customer Service:

  • Working with internal CBA clients to understand and document their requirements for new/modified Group Measures.  (A Group Measure is a something that CBA needs to have measured/quantified in a consistent, repeatable manner.  For example, the number of a particular product sold last week.)
  • Developing SQL against the Group Data Warehouse in an iterative fashion, incorporating regular checkpoints with the internal client.  The Measures must follow our Group Reference Data Standards
  • Developing associated functional specification documents and implementation documents
  • Assist testing Measures developed by other members of the Measure Delivery team
  • Overseeing the development of measures by our offshore service provider to ensure Standards are followed and a quality outcome for the client
  • Assisting with the development/enhancement of appropriate Group Reference Data standards and policies

Contribution to Business / Profit:

  • Develop technical specifications and documentation that meets business requirements
  • Prioritise work and deliverables according to specified timeframes
  • Complete or oversee project work stream deliverables including quality control/sign off for area of accountability
  • Liaise with suppliers as required
  • Analyse current IT environments, e.g. systems, data and processes, and participate in reviews of systems and processes to ensure ongoing maintenance and continuous improvement
  • Recommend changes to processes and systems, with measurable business benefits, based on current and future customer needs, knowledge of the system, analysis and performance

Risk Management / Compliance:

  • Be alert to any risks which could prevent achievement of the objectives of the role, particularly safety risks.  Take appropriate action to mitigate the risks.
  • Exercise your authorities within the Enterprise Services delegation authority matrix.
  • Ensure that you, and any team members under your direct leadership, comply with the Group’s Occupational Health and Safety policy, all other internal Group policies and procedures, and any relevant external legislative requirements.
